Our practice uses the Wand, a computerised dental injection system, which injects anesthetic at a slow and steady rate that is more comfortable. This, combined with our numbing paste, allows most patients to feel very little when receiving anesthetic. Patients who are used to more traditional methods of anesthetic love the difference and many, after receiving the anesthetic, often don’t realise that the injection has already been done!
At Terrigal Dental we offer ‘happy gas’ also known as nitrous oxide to help you feel relaxed. Happy gas works within seconds, and wears off within minutes once the gas is removed, meaning you can still drive home safely after your appointment. Happy gas can make you feel sleepy and give you a sensation of floating, so you can completely zone out whilst your dental treatment is being done. Happy gas is completely safe for both adults and children.
Oral sedation simply involves taking a pill one hour before your treatment. Once your treatment starts, you will still be able to communicate with the dentist and assistant but will feel relaxed and enjoy a treatment that is virtually pain-free. Oral sedation is a good option for longer and more involved procedures as it is long-lasting and provides a deeper sense of relaxation than happy gas.
Many patients say the worst part of going to the dentist is the sound of the dental drill. But with Netflix on the ceilings and our noise-cancelling headphones, you can completely zone out and won’t even notice the sound of the drill! Choose your own show, start where you left off in that series you just haven’t had the time to watch, lay back and take your mind off the rest of the world.
Our wonderful dental assistance dogs Boston and Harvey put even the most anxious patient at ease! We think they have a sixth sense for nervous patients and will greet you with a big hug when you walk through our doors.
Boston and Harvey can even accompany you in the surgery and will comfort you by sitting beside you or on your lap as you have your treatment done.
